Allen & Overy Corporate Gym

Client: Allen & Overy    Year of Completion: 2006
Architect/Designer: Pringle Brandon    Main Contractor/Customer: ISG Interior Exterior

When international legal giants, Allen & Overy decided to move offices they wanted to install a gym for their 5000 employees, which would also provide an area where the services could be accessed through the ceiling for maintenance and repair.

These access areas, although concealed in the ceiling proved ugly and designers wanted them to be disguised in an easy and cost effective way. Access into the space was still important, however, as was maintaining air ventilation and circulation and adhering to national building and fire regulations.

Architen Landrell and architects Pringle Brandon worked together to proposed the installation of a series of geometric ceiling panels made from a mesh fabric. The mesh allows the air to circulate and the gym to remain cool, and the panel design allows easy retraction to ensure the facility management access to the services hidden behind.

The client was keen on the geometric style of the panels that fitted overall with the modern and ‘clean cut’ look of the gym, and emphasised the importance of the consistent and perpendicular lines to achieve this look.
