Buckingham Palace Ticket Office

Client: Holloway White Allom    Year of Completion: 1994
Architect/Designer: Michael Hopkins Architects

In the grounds of one of the most famous palaces in the world, a ticket office designed, manufactured and installed by Architen Landrell greets people as they arrive.

The demountable structure, formed from a series of umbrella type conics joined to form one single canopy, provides shade and protection from the rain for the staff and visitors of the palace.

Designed to be able to be removed easily in the closed season, and re-erected when the summer begins, the structure is made from PVC coated polyester; a fabric which is relatively pliable and easy to manipulate, and has high crease resistance properties which make it ideal for structures which need to be regularly removed.

Timber clad with a lightweight acrylic roof, the fabric and timber are held in position with a series of flitched coat hangers. The whole structure is stabilised by cables anchored to concrete blocks which are positioned beneath the gravel surrounding the structure.
