Butlins, Bognor Regis

Client: Rank Leisure    Year of Completion: 1998
Architect/Designer: S & P Architects

Founded in 1936, Butlins seaside holiday resorts are a British institution, therefore, Architen Landrell was thrilled to win the contract to design, manufacture and install the Skyline Pavilions for the three remaining sites as the resort underwent renovation.

In 1998, as part of the £75 million redevelopment scheme undertaken by Rank Leisure, Architen Landrell was contracted to design, manufacture and install the Skyline Pavilion at the seaside Butlins resort in Bognor Regis.

This huge canopy, the biggest of the three installed by Architen Landrell, forms the hub of the site enclosing nine thousand square metres between buildings to create year round, weather protected restaurants and entertainment areas.

A defining project for both Architen Landrell and Butlins, the skyline pavilions proved a real challenge for all involved. Manufactured in PVC coated polyester with integral linings in the factory in Chepstow, all three structures then had to be installed simultaneously within one month during the refurbishment of the sites, ready to open in time for the peak summer season.
