Tensile fabric conic structures

Car Supermarkets Conic Canopies

Client: Car Supermarkets    Year of Completion: 1998
Main Contractor/Customer: John Mowlem Plc

Tensile fabric is an intrinsically flexible and interesting material which means it’s used for a wide range of applications from solar shading and light control to fabric sculptures. However, it’s frequently used in the retail sector to provide an added point of sale, so the Architen Landrell team were not surprised when we were asked to supply and install two fabric canopies for Car Supermarkets.

At the first of several sites, located in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Architen Landrell was commissioned to design two canopies to cover the used cars. They served to attract attention as well as protect the cars from the unpredictable British weather.

Manufactured in PVC coated polyester, the fabric offered the most cost effective yet during solution to the client. The structures are designed to be easy to clean and maintain in order to make the upkeep as straightforward as possible.

Lit from the underside, these structures glow at night to form a dramatic centre piece for the forecourt.
