Christ the King Sixth Form College

Client: Christ the King Sixth Form College    Year of Completion: 2007
Architect/Designer: Graham Rivers Architects    Main Contractor/Customer: Rooff Limited

When Architen Landrell was approached by Christ the King sixth Form College in Lewisham to design, manufacture and install a canopy to cover their outdoor eating area, the company were excited to be involved.

With schools as a rapidly emerging marketing for tensile construction, the opportunity could not be passed to design something for the college. The sales team proposed a ‘Kalahari’ structure – a single hexagonal sail supported by six masts at differing heights to form a practical but interesting canopy.

The Kalahari, which measures 12m from point to point through the centre, is one of a range of structures Architen Landrell offer pre-designed and is ideal for the school environment.

With the order placed in the school holidays, Architen Landrell had only six weeks to complete the necessary design, manufacture and installation of the structure so the race was on!

The deadline was kept and both Architen Landrell and the client are thrilled with the structure which looks stunning and provides the students with a dry and attractive environment to sit in.
