Flexney's House

Client: Ms Mairi Eastwood    Year of Completion: 2007
Architect/Designer: MEB People and Places    Main Contractor/Customer: AppleB Construction Ltd

Architen Landrell rarely get the change to work within the residential construction industry but were thrilled when Mairi Eastwood embarked upon adding a fabric roof to an extension onto her 17th Century home!

In order to create a light and airy ground floor extension fabric was adopted to form a conic shaped roof. As a lightweight building material with high translucency, fabric provided the right balance of enclosed space and light transmission.

With such a long history, the house has had regular alterations over the centuries to upgrade and modernise the living space. The works carried out were designed as a continuation of this process to bring the house into the twenty first century. This juxtaposition of modern building materials fits surprisingly well with the ancient domicile building and forms and forms a beautiful centre piece for the new extension.
