Hampstead Theatre

Client: Hampstead Theatre    Year of Completion: 1998

In the box office of Hampstead Theatre, Architen Landrell installed a number of curved fabric ceiling panels to soften the look of steelwork and to aid air circulation.

Previously a fairly industrial and cold space, the client wanted to cover up the metal pipe work and maintenance systems in order to create a more chic look to an otherwise very stylish theatre.

Designers were brought in alongside Architen Landrell to achieve this look. It was decided that the most aesthetic, easiest and cost effective option would be a series of curved panels which could easily be removed to allow access to the systems behind them.

The need for class 0 fire rating and continual air circulation was incorporated into the design. Architen suggested the use of glass mesh fabric to ensure its health and safety suitability in this key location within the theatre complex and to allow air to move freely around the entire space.
