Twin coned tensile fabric structure

Milton Park

Client: Glanville Consultants    Year of Completion: 1999
Architect/Designer: Nicholas Hare

This piece of fabric architecture is a triple peaked conic structure with the fabric membrane being a single skin of PVC coated polyester covering 1600 square meters. The structure provides a covered walkway between two buildings on a business park.

A fabric structure covering 1600 square meters in plan with a PVC membrane whose three cones are supported on three slightly inclined steel masts. The inclination of the masts aids the balance and tensioning of the membrane. The perimeter of the canopy is tensioned out to and supported by eight steel tripods. The structure sits between and above two adjoining two storey buildings and as a result the perimeter tripods are unusually tall. The site management offices are in one of the buildings so visitors to site have the pleasure of passing under this structure.
