Tensile Fabric Sails

Peterborough Destination Centre

Client: Peterborough City Council    Year of Completion: 2009
Architect/Designer: Peterborough City Council    Main Contractor/Customer: L Garfield (Builders) Ltd

Like many of Architen Landrell’s interior fabric structure clients, Peterborough Destination Centre were looking for a simple yet attractive solution to a problem when they came to us. The newly refurbished building had a ceiling filled with pipes and wires and the architect was keen to cover the space with some kind of tensile fabric feature.

Architen Landrell was contracted to manufacture five fabric sails to broadly cover the space and to provide an architectural feature. Three of the five installed were taken from our range of standard tensile fabric products, however, the other two were made to the client’s required dimensions in order to fix the space as desired.

To add an additional layer of interest, the fabric sails are lit with coloured LEDs which make them glow gently in a soothing way. The client is happy with the results and Architen Landrell has another example of just how a simple fabric structure can transform a space.
