Residental Canopy, Surrey
Architect/Designer: Rolf Judd Architects
As an architect who had previously worked with Architen Landrell, when Charles Graham wanted to design and install a modern patio canopy in his back garden, he came to us.
Using his architectural expertise, the client was in the process of upgrading and refurbishing a listed building and wanted to add the feature canopy over a new patio to provide an exterior entertainment space. Due to planning constraints and the loading limits on the existing buildings the canopy needed to be easily demountable and stored for the winter season.
The canopy design started as a simple hypar, however, site constraints and the clients requirements meant that the scheme needed to be significantly modified. The clean lines and aerodynamic shape of the new structure led to it being nicknamed the 'Stealth Fighter' by the design team!
The challenges in building this structure arose due to the complex design and engineering required for this small canopy along with the planning constraints of this unique location.
Finished just in time for the summer months, the client has reported positively upon the final installation.
