With vital electronic equipment on stage, tour designers of the years biggest and most extravagant tour, felt it was important to keep the stage area and musicians dry. Architen Landrell were commissioned to design and install a stage weather shelter made up of component roof parts.
As the biggest grossing tour of the year, the Rolling Stones took the world by storm with their 2005 tour. The 'Bigger Bang' tour, named after their album of the same name demanded a versatile but exciting set, which could withstand months of intense use in a wide range of climates and surroundings.
As part of the grand scheme, designers of the set included roofettes for main stage and individual weather shelters for band members. Although an unavoidable part of the overall look of the stage, these components had to provide weather protection to the band members without detracting from the audience experience. To combat this the weather shelters were designed to be retractable and to rise up from out of the stage deck when required.
