St Thomas' School, Battersea

Client: St Thomas' School    Year of Completion: 2007
Architect/Designer: The Facility

When governors at St Thomas’s School in Battersea decided to modernise the school’s interior, they wanted a unique twist and an interactive element to the design. Architect Steve Fiztwilliam undoubtedly met their expectations with an internal canopy lit with interactive LED lighting stretching from the brand new IT centre and library building to the entrance to the school theatre.

As an experienced fabric architecture company with added expertise in intelligent lighting systems, Architen Landrell won the contract to design, manufacture, install and commission the fabric walkway and lighting.

Working alongside the client and architect, the walkway was designed by Architen Landrell to integrate a Tryka LED colour changing system controlled with a Pharos LPC system. The lighting was programmed to subtly change colour according to the time of day that also would alert children to the end of break times by having a more vivid effect. This system is also used in their physics sessions to display colour mixing.

Fabric provided a perfect whiteboard for projecting and reflecting the light and maximised the effect of the emboldening colours. Assembled, installed and commissioned in a very short space of time, and during the GCSE exam period, the project proved to be a great success – with impressive results!
