The Gateway, Leeds

Year of Completion: 2007
Architect/Designer: Carey Jones Architects    Main Contractor/Customer: Shepherd Construction

After approaching Architen Landrell with elaborate design plans for the atrium of a vast building, Carey Jones Architects faced a problem – how to create their designs within their clients budget.

Architen Landrell proposed the installation of a group of suspended hypars instead – a relatively standard product which would ensure cost efficacy and minimise installation time as much as possible.

The hypars, suspended down the centre of the atrium space in a number of sizes, provided a much needed architectural focus to the wide open space. Lighting has helped open up and brighten the space below by reflecting off the white fabric of the features.

Not only beautiful, these hypars were designed to be practical as well – they are fixed to retractable cables to allow easy maintenance!
