Architen Landrell has recently designed a unique retractable roofing system to protect this years revellers from the torrential rain associated with the festival season. Even in the rare sunshine experienced at this years event, the structure has come unto its own as a cool, shady haven for those looking for a more intimate, relaxing experience.
With a fully tensioned sculptural stage roof and deep entrance canopies, the distinctive structure is visually striking on its own. However, the space is instantly transformed from an open air party into an intimate venue when the two wide canopies are fully raised.
The bespoke retracting system has been designed to be raised and lowered in seconds, operated only by hidden lines concealed to the rear of the system. Neatly stored above the bar when not deployed, and packed away after the festival into a kit form, this structure has already been booked for another eight venues over the next three years.
