Portfolio > Broadmead Fabric Sail
The city of Bristol has a long standing Naval and Merchant history, so what could be better than a dramatic sail feature to welcome visitors into the citys main shopping district?
Architen Landrell was approached by Bristol City Council to design, manufacture and install a entrance feature which could be printed or branded to reflect the citys identity. The PVC coated polyester fabric sail is fixed to a large steel frame and both had to be carefully engineered to ensure they were resistant to wind and snow loading, (particularly due to the shape of the sail which is traditionally designed to catch the wind!) The end product is a striking installation, and one which is well known around Bristol. The busy shopping centre brings in thousands of visitors a day and they pass by the Broadmead Sail, using is as a handy meeting spot and point of reference!
