At the Darien Lakes Theme Park in Buffalo, New York State, Architen Landrell installed a vast PVC coated polyester canopy to cover an amphitheatre.
The Performing Arts Center, which replaced the original Lakeside Amphitheatre and provides almost 4 times as much covered space as the original structure, is a 500sqm structure which provides cover for 6,000 seats, each with an unobstructed sight line to the stage.
The canopy was designed to withstand the unusually heavy snow fall in the Buffalo region and is therefore heavily engineered, even for a tensile fabric structure! After engineering, the canopy was fabricated in South Wales, UK and shipped to the USA where Architen supervised the installation alongside local labouring firms.
