raft race charity award

Written by in Charity

Staff from Chepstow based Architen Landrell will once again be participating in the Rotary Club of Monmouths 48th Raft Race this Sunday, 1 September. The event raises funds for St Davids Hospice Care and other good causes.

On the day of the event, 70 teams will race 6.5 miles down the beautiful River Wye on handmade rafts.  Yes, you read that correct. Each team must construct their own boat according to specified criteria.

This year, Architen has entered an all-male team of six on a raft constructed of a lightweight aluminium frame with air filled PVC coated polyester pontoons.  Being in the tensile fabric industry, it made sense for us to have pontoons made of fabric.  This was a design that won the race a few years ago (shown in the photo).

The race starts at noon with a Family Festival from 1PM to 5PM. The Awards Ceremony will take place at 4PM.  For more information on the event or to make a donation, contact David Forbes on 01600 712665, www.monmouthraftrace.com.

Come be a part of the excitement and by all means, leave the eggs and flour* at home!

*Eggs and flour are traditionally tossed over the bridge as rafters make their way to the finish line.
